31 Things You Didn't Know About Me!

31 Things You Didn't Know About Me

This is actually the 10 or 11 things you didn't know about me tag, but as I've been tagged 3 times, I thought I would combine them all into one post. I would like to start by thanking the people who nominated me:
Becky at Cuddle Fairy
The Mama at Poop Rainbows
I love all three of these blogs, drop by and say hello :)

1. Thank the person who nominated you
2. Answer their questions
3. Write your own questions
4. Nominate other bloggers to keep the tag going

Becky's questions

1. If you could return to one place you have already traveled to, where would it be?
I want to say Rome for the culture, the history and the fashion, but being totally honest, much as I loved Rome and would return, if I could only pick one, it would have to be Benidorm, even if that does make me sound a little boring! You know when you find that place that somehow feels like home even though it isn't? That's how I feel in Benidorm.

2. What kind of music do you like?
I like all kinds of music - my playlists are a mix of genres that should probably never be seen together - Led Zeppelin followed by Dolly Parton anyone! My favourite kind is rock/metal.

3. What's your favourite book or magazine?
My favourite book tends to change but I think it would have to be Clan Of The Cave Bear by Jean M Auel. I felt such an emotional connection the first time I read this (and still do each time). I feel it's one of those books that every time you read it again, you find something you missed before.

4. What's your favorite thing to shop for (ie: handbags if you asked me)?
Generally, I hate shopping with a passion, but shoe shopping is my guilty pleasure!

5. If you could travel back in time & give your 17-year-old self one piece of advice - what would it be?
Stop trying to please people - some people, you will never please - those people don't matter. The people who do matter you please without having to try so hard! I know this now, but I wish I had learned it a lot sooner.

6. Do you have a favorite sweet / candy?
Cadbury's Caramel! It's just so good!

7. Do you have any pets?
Just fish at the minute. I have tropical fish and gold fish.

8. What's your favourite perfume?
I love La Coste Pink.

9. What was your first job?
My first job was as a cleaner on a chemical plant - it was 5-7pm on weekdays, so worked out perfectly for a bit of pocket money while I was at college.

10. Name one blog that you really enjoy & follow regularly (I know it's hard to choose just one!).
Wow, this is tough - I have a list coming out tomorrow of my top favourite blogs, so anyone of those really, but I feel like that's cheating! I really enjoy You Baby Me Mummy and I have learned so much about blogging through reading this blog.

Thanks again Becky - those questions where tough, I think you got your own back lol!

The Mama's questions

1. What’s the worst thing you’ve ever done?
Oh wow, ever wish you hadn't vowed to be honest on your blog!? I once kissed a man who was married. I was very young, very stupid and utterly charmed that this older, seemingly sophisticated man was into me. I really regret it and if I could turn back the clock, there's no way I would do it.

2. What’s the worst job you’ve ever had?
I worked for a company that did business to business sales. It involved a lot of cold calling, not even over the phone, but just turning up at businesses uninvited and unannounced. I was quite good at it, but I hated every second of it!

3. What’s the best trip you’ve taken?
I really enjoyed Terra Natura. After reading a few bad reports, I was a bit nervous, but it turned out they were all totally unfounded. The animals all had loads of space, were well fed and seemed happy. It was a great day with a lot of good memories.

4. If you could be any inanimate object, what would you be?
Oh, I like this one! I would be an aeroplane! I love the idea of flying around the world every day, and most people on aeroplanes are pretty happy so that would be good too.

5. What’s the best TV series you’ve seen?
I love so many. I think my favourite would have to be Orange is the New Black - I hope that counts because technically it's a Netflix Original!

6. What’s the weirdest thing you’ve eaten?
A bush tucker kebab! It had bison, kangaroo and crocodile, all of which were surprisingly nice). That wasn't even abroad either, our local butcher was getting in on the I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here hype!

7. What’s the best date you’ve had?
I'm not really a hearts and flowers type - I don't buy into the whole posh dinner and theatre trips things. My best dates have always been just sitting in a bar having a few drinks and a laugh.

8. What do you want to be when you grow up?
I never want to go grow up! I would love to be a writer though.

9. What rules do you often break?
Only ones I consider to be stupid - such as the no phones at work one. If there are no customers in, who am I hurting! I also regularly break accepted writing rules - I over use exclamation points, I have a big love for run on sentences and sometimes I start sentences with the word "and". Such a rebel!

10. What white lie have you told recently?
Just this morning, I told a sales person that I wasn't in when he asked to speak to me! I don't even have to feel guilty about this one, it's got to be better than slamming the phone down.

11. What’s the most annoying thing you have seen online?
How long have you got lol? One of the things that annoy me most, and I seem to see on an almost daily basis are the "poor me" Facebook status. Now I don't mean if you genuinely have something going on, or you feel down, you shouldn't say that. I mean the overly vague ones that have clearly done it just so people will ask what's wrong! Either say it or don't!

Thanks again to The Mama :)

Katie's questions

1) Do you have kids? How old are they?
I don't have any children. I love other people's, but have never wanted my own.

2) What is your favorite day of the week?
I think Friday's. For all I work all weekend, I still get that Friday feeling - years of social conditioning I guess!

3) What's the last vacation you took?
The last one I took where I went away was last year I went to Benidorm with my best friends for 10 days. It was fantastic. Last month I took some vacation days from work, just to use some up in the nice weather but I didn't go away any where.

4) Would you ever go sky diving?
Yes, definitely! I would love to go sky diving, talk about the ultimate sense of freedom.

5) Describe the prefect evening at home.
Wine! A nice hot bubble bath, a nice meal and a bit of Netflix or a good movie. And wine :)

6) Do you have any pets?
Just some fish, both gold fish and tropical fish.

7) What is your favorite holiday?
It's got to be Christmas. I'm like a big kid - all the lights, the decorations, the Christmas songs, family, friends, gifts, the whole works. There's always a buzz in the air and everyone's happy and excited.

8) What is your favorite non alcoholic beverage?
Coffee - I can get through quite a lot per day.

9) What's your favorite thing about blogging?
I love having my own little space to talk about whatever I want to, and when people read and comment on what I've written, it's just the best feeling ever!

10) Dress or skirt?
Dress! I'm so weird with skirts - I love them on other people but they just never look right on me for some reason. The odd time I find one that doesn't hang funny, or isn't an awkward length or any of the other reasons I don't wear them, I can never find a top I like with it!

Thanks again Katie!

Now for my questions:
1. If you could be invisible for one day, where would you go and what would you do?
2. What is your biggest fear?
3. If you could commit a crime with no fear of retribution, would you do it?
4. Who do you look up to most?
5. What is your favourite colour?
6. What is your most embarrassing moment?
7. If you could be any fictional character, who would it be and why?
8. What is your favourite gadget?
9. Facebook or Twitter?
10. Who is your favourite author?

And my nominations:
Angela from Days in Bed
Susan from The Mommy Life

Thanks again ladies! Some tough questions there, but I really enjoyed answering them. If you wish to answer my questions, consider yourself tagged!

The Serial Husband - The End

The Serial Husband - The End

I float on a wave of emotion. I see everything and I see nothing. I am nowhere and I am everywhere. I’m also getting ahead of myself. I must go back a little – it’s painful, but it’s what I have to do.
I think of Matt sitting there looking across at me. He looks so lost and vulnerable, like a child who has lost his Mother. I want to go to him so badly. To hold him. To make everything ok again. I can’t of course. It’s too late for that.
How did it come to this? Was it always destined to end up this way, or do we make our own fates? Was this the universe’s plan for us all along, whatever we did, or was it a series of bad decisions on both of our parts that brought us to this point?

So many questions battle for space in my brain. I have no answers to any of them. In a way I don’t want answers. If I don’t know, I can believe we were both just innocent pawns playing our pre-planned roles. That’s a much nicer scenario than any of the others that run through my thoughts.
I’m pulled rudely from my thoughts by a voice, loud in the otherwise quiet room. I didn’t catch everything it said. I caught only one word, but that one word was enough. That one word said it all, the rest is just window dressing. Guilty. One word, not even a big word, but its meaning changes lives.
Guilty of murder. I want to run, but I can’t move. I want to scream, but I can’t speak. My head is spinning, spinning.
I stand shakily and a hand takes me elbow, steadying me and leading me out of the courtroom.
As I stumble blindly along the corridor two more words come back to me. Life imprisonment. It’s like a mantra running through my head on a loop. Guilty. Life imprisonment. Guilty. Life imprisonment.
The words spin through my head, they lose all meaning and I cling to them like I used to cling to my favourite blanket.
I’m ushered into a room and the door slams behind me. I take a deep breath.
‘Get a grip girl,’ I tell myself.
Those words running through my head will be enough to send me crazy before long.
And I think we all know now I am not crazy.
Matt did kill his first wife. He did kill that nurse. He did try to kill me.

I suppose that’s the defence I should have used, maybe I would be free now. But I can never truly be free. Not now. Not without my Matt. I didn’t want to kill him, I just didn’t want to lose him. When I saw those divorce papers on his desk, I just panicked.
Besides, how could I have all those people thinking my Matt was a monster?

That's it! I hope you all like how it turned out! Let me know what you think in the comments :)

Spreading Rumours And Lies: A Rant!

What I see when people spread rumours!
As a barmaid, it seems my life is open for discussion and judgement by every customer who walks through the door. Apparently, working in this industry means my life is fair game, and the bits they don't know (which is most bits) they just make up and spread around.
This should annoy me, but as I started writing the post, I realised it doesn't! I find it hilarious - some of the weird and wonderful things that get back to me are beyond belief, and no one with half a brain would believe it.
It also kind of amuses me that the customers have nothing better to talk about than me and my imaginary life - any publicity is good publicity right?! It reminds me of the Shakespeare quote I vaguely remember about how we are all actors on a stage - he forgot to mention that the audience like to get themselves involved!
I'm pretty thick skinned and I just laugh about it - I don't bother even denying the rubbish anymore - people will believe what they want to believe, and that's fine. I have better things to do than debate my own life with someone - you know like go out and have a threesome or two if you believe the rumours ;) (the boring truth is more like sit online and write a blog post or two!).
Where it does annoy me though is when they talk about the other barmaids who take it personally and get upset. The regular customers know who will be upset by their rumours and yet it doesn't stop them spreading them!
Who the hell do they think they are to make crap up about people to the point they don't want to come into work and face another day of comments and looks!
Perhaps the people making rumours up should go out and get themselves a life instead of putting their noses into other people's!

Have you ever had rumours about yourself get back to you? Does it bother you? Let me know in the comments :)

My Monthly Reflections - July

My Monthly Reflections: July

This month saw the Over To You theme, where readers were invited to put forward topics they would like to see me write about and also submit any questions they wanted to ask me. This had an overwhelming response and I would like to thank everyone who took part.
This theme forced me to go outside my comfort zone - I found myself writing travel posts and beauty posts amongst others, something I have enjoyed reading but never thought I would write! I thoroughly enjoyed both and there may be more to come in the future.
I also wrote a follow up to a short story which I had been meaning to do for a while.
Overall, I really enjoyed this month. I thought it would be hard writing to order, and while I wouldn't say it was easy, I didn't feel the posts were forced, which was my main worry.
While this theme is now officially over, I always welcome suggestions, so if there's anything else you want me to write about, feel free to let me know!

Without further ado, here is my monthly roundup:

My most viewed posts (excluding linkys):

My least viewed posts (excluding guest posts):

If you have a minute (and a cuppa!), why not check out my most popular posts, or show some of the less popular ones a little love!

What where your best and worst posts this month?

Book Review: The Demonologist By Andrew Pyper

Time for the review of the third book from July's reading list. Check out the list here if you missed it.

My review of The Demonologist by Andrew Pyper

Book Review: The Demonologist by Andrew Pyper

Blurb from the back cover

The desperate search for his missing daughter will take a father to Hell and back…
Professor David Ullman is a world authority on demonic literature. So when offered a luxury trip to Venice to consult on a “phenomenon” he accepts, taking his daughter, Tess, with him.
But in Venice, things take a sinister, terrifying turn when a man speaks in the voice of David’s dead father, repeating the last words he ever spoke to his son. Then Tess disappears before his eyes.
Yet as she falls into the waters of the Grand Canal, she pleads with her father:
‘Find me…’

My thoughts on the book
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Set mostly in Venice, it had lovely descriptions of the city and it's canals and buildings. There is a lot more to the book than what is implied by the blurb. Although primarily a story of possession, it reminds me a little of Dan Brown's The DaVinci Code as Professor Ullman tries to unravel the reason for the possession and how to get his daughter back.

Conclusion and rating
A definite winner, and one I would highly recommend. 5/5

Have you read this book? Did you enjoy it? Let me know in the comments :)

Guest Post: The Myth Of The Exciting Summer Job By Beth Jones

Today's post is something a little different, but I think we can all relate to it - a guest post about summer jobs. The post is written by Beth, from over at Do I Have To Have A Reason for Anything I Feel. Beth is a new blogger, so please do go visit her blog (link at the end of this post). We've all been there!
For now, here is a little more about her:
Beth, 18, a Creative Writing and English Literature student at the University of Chester. I currently work part time in Boots, and have a strong interest in writing, reading, travel and music. I hope to one day become a successful publisher, but for now I'm content with using the world around me to inspire me.
Onto Beth's fab post. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I did!

The Myth Of The Exciting Summer Job by Beth Jones
The Myth of the Exciting Summer JobIf, like me, you’ve finished uni for the summer, you’re probably either desperately seeking a job for yourself so you have enough money to survive this summer, or your parents are badgering you about getting one. I fell into both categories on this. And so it starts. You spend AGES scouring websites such as Indeed.com, updating your CV, and searching for the sought after summer job. First of all, you’re over ambitious applying for jobs with fancy names, with fancy companies, and you have images of yourself in a glamorous job position. You eagerly wait for the job offers to come rolling in, checking your email every two seconds, and complaining to your friends when you’re out of WiFi range as you know that’s when you’ll get an offer. You tell your parents how amazing your life will be if you get this job, and brag to your friends how likely you are to get it.

Suddenly it’s a week later and you haven’t heard anything. By this point you’re starting to get a bit pissed off, I mean, come on, why wouldn’t they want to employ you?

Two weeks later and it’s over, you’ve had the dreaded rejection email, with the impersonal ‘Thank you for applying’, and you’ve even had the rather rude ‘do you wish to fill out a survey to inform us about our application process’. Yeah right.

You’re now aware that times ticking, you’re even more broke than before, your parents are nagging you to the point you’re considering sleeping in the garden as a method of escape, and it’s already a couple of weeks into summer, meaning even less summer jobs are now available.

So now you’re frantically scrolling through the net, applying for anything and everything in sight, even if it’s miles away from where you actually live, and the job sounds horrendous and you know you’re sinking to levels even deeper than the deepest part of the ocean. When your parents ask you how the job search is going, you can now tell them how hard you’re trying to get a job, and you can show them your clogged up email inbox, full of companies telling you that they’ve received your application and will be reviewing it. To be honest, by this point your hope is nil.

You spend the next few days moping around the house because you have no money, and somehow (you’re not sure how) your friends have managed to get their shit together, and actually get a summer job.

Keep calm I got a summer jobUntil suddenly an unknown number flashes up on your phone, and you answer it, ready to shout at the call centre who are bugging you for the thousandth time, except.. instead your greeted by a friendly, chirpy voice on the other end of the line. And they want to speak to you about a job. Your heart races as you quickly prepare yourself before replying. The person on the other end of the phone asks if you’re free, there and then, for a telephone interview, and you try to compose yourself and act calm and casually before replying yes, not allowing the fact that your life now depends on the next five minutes, to get in the way.

Five minutes later and somehow you’ve managed to blag yourself an actual interview for in a few days time. You get off the phone and excitedly tell your parents that you’ve managed to get yourself an interview, ignoring the fact that it’s for one of the jobs that you didn’t really want, and the fact it’s going to take you an hour everyday to get there, if you actually do manage to get the job.

Roll round to interview day, and you’re up bright and early, dressed in your smartest clothes, and feeling like you’ve actually made it in the world, as you travel the route to the interview, looking around at everyone commuting into their actual jobs, and feeling enthusiastic that you too could soon be doing this on a regular basis. You pointedly ignore the fact that half of these people look knackered, as if they haven’t slept in months (they probably haven’t).

You arrive early before the interview and assess your competition, thinking, ‘piece of cake, I’m much more likely to get the job than this bunch.’ You go into the interview, and desperately suck up to the person who’s interviewing you, telling them how much you love the company, and how much you’d love to work with them. When they ask you about your availability, you stupidly say you’re available all the time, your observation skills failing you yet again, as you miss the glint  in the interviewer’s eyes when they realise what you’ve said.

You leave the interview knowing you’ve done all you can, and make the long journey home. A couple of hours later, you’re sat having a cup of tea with your parents, whilst they’re all proud of you for being ‘grown up’ and going to an interview, when your phone rings with an unknown number. You answer the call, and can’t believe it when you’re offered the job. Your parents are super proud, everything’s great, you’ve got a summer job!

Everything’s perfect until you get your contract, see your minimum wage page, realise you’ve agreed to full time hours and complete flexibility, and the fact that your weekends are now going to be spent working rather than partying it up with your friends with all the money you’ve earned.

5 Books Everyone Should Read

As part of the Over To You theme I'm running this month, I was asked the following by @PoopRainbowMama:

If I told you I had just learned to read, what books would you recommend to me and why?

5 Books Everyone Should Read

I love this question, although it's going to be quite a struggle narrowing it down! I'm going to limit myself to five - if I don't set a limit, this post could be about the length of a book! I'm going to stay away from books that are accepted to be books you "should" read and choose ones instead where I absolutely loved the story. The books I feel that would make you fall in love with reading.

The Witches by Roald Dahl 1.The Witches by Roald Dahl
I love all Roald Dahl books, but I think this one is my favourite. it gets the balance just right about building tension without terrifying kids. I have re-read this as an adult and still enjoyed it. Roald Dahl writes in a way that although the books are aimed at kids, they aren't childish. As per the original question, if someone has just learned to read as an adult, they have missed out on Roald Dahl and I think it's a rite of passage to read him.

The Exorcist by William Peter Blatty

2.The Exorcist by William Peter Blatty
To me, this is the ultimate horror book. It builds up the tension to a level that is almost unbearable, and keeps it there. This book will haunt you long after reading it.

The Pact by Jodi Picoult3.The Pact by Jodi Picoult
This is another one that will stay with you long after putting it down, although for very different reasons. Don't let it put you off that this is billed as a love story. It has elements of a powerful love story, but it is so much more than that. It explores the relationships of teenagers and also family ties and friendships. It makes us question how well we ever know anyone and the blurred lines between love and lies.

4.The Clan Of The Cave Bear by Jean M Auel
The Clan Of The Cave Bear by Jean M AuelWhen reading the blurb on this book, it wasn't something I would normally have read, but I thought I'd give it a go. I'm so glad I did. If this book doesn't touch you emotionally, then I don't know what would! I found myself caught up in the story to the point where I literally couldn't put it down, and I felt empty when it was done. It's one I regularly re-read and I always seem to find something I had previously missed. And it still draws me in each time.

The House That Jack Built by Graham Masterton

5.The House That Jack Built by Graham Masterton
I don't know what it is about this book that keeps me going back, but it has something. It's predominantly a ghost story, but there's so much more to it than things that go bump in the night. It is a genuinely disturbing story that is very well told.

So there you have it, five books I feel everyone should read. Which five books would you recommend?

Guest Post: Two Truths And A Lie By Emily Claxton

Today's post is a guest post from Emily over at Directed In The Right Direction. A bit different to my usual posts, but I think it'll be a fun little game. The post, for me, has a nostalgic feel to it because we used to play this game at school when I was a child.
If you haven't visited Emily's blog yet, here's a little more about her:

Emily is a new blogger with a love for writing. She is 17 and currently at college.

Onto Emily's post - I hope you all join in, it's just a bit of fun :)

Two Truths and a Lie by Emily Claxton
Two Truths And A Lie - Guest Post by Emily Claxton

Remember that silly ‘start of year let’s socialise’ game your teachers would make you play at the beginning of the year? You know the one where you’d have to think of three facts, two would be true to you and the third false? Well, if you still don’t know what I’m on about then you’ve successfully dodged the awkwardness, congratulations.
Anyway, now from an older perspective, I find myself frequently trying to think of slightly unusual facts about myself, things that would maybe catch a stranger out. So, you know, I thought I’d try it out. I’m going to give you three facts about myself, two will be completely 100% true, and one? Not so much. Well, here we go…

1.       I have only ever drank water

Since being little I have never in my life drank anything but water. I legitimately can just not stand the taste of anything else. Pull orange juice out and you will have to be prepared to see me squirm, just the thought of it makes me cringe a little.

2.       My Guinea Pig exploded

Now, I don’t know whether this was my fault or just a general thing that guinea pigs tend to do sometimes? I mean I was only a child, so I might be over-exaggerating, but as I recall I fed it way too much and then the next morning there was no more guinea pig.

3.       My little sister’s middle name is Sparkle

So a 4 year old me thought it’d be just grand to call my sister Sparkle, my mum however didn’t think it’d be such a grand idea, we finally settled on the idea that we’d have a Abigail Sparkle (why she let this happen I’ll never understand).

So…they’re my 3 facts, the question is, where’s the lie?

It's a tricky one isn't it? None of them sound true. I'm going to go with number 3. Let us know in the comments which one you think is the lie :)

In The Hotseat 4

I recently asked my readers if there where any questions they would like to ask me. The response was really good. Thank you to everyone who took the time to respond!

Q1 submitted by @moderatemum
What is your passion?
Previous to starting blogging, I really don't think I would have had an answer to this question. Now I would have to say writing.

Q2 submitted by @moderatemum
Any regrets?
Yes and no. There's things I would do differently, and I guess to some extent I have some regrets. Having said if I had done things differently, my life today would likely be different and I'm happy with my life today.

Q3 submitted by @runjumpscrap
What is the best piece of advice you have ever been given?
This is a tricky one as I have been given lots of good advice along the way, and also lots of terrible advice! I think the one that sticks out is to be myself, and if other people don't like it they don't have to look!

Q4 submitted by @kirstyralph11
If you could only eat one thing for the rest of you life, what would it be and why?
I should probably pick something really healthy here, but I promised myself I would be honest. Truthfully probably something rubbish like pizza, because with different toppings and things you can make it a bit different everyday, and I love cheese so it's a winner! Also, on lazy days, I can order take out lol.

Q5 submitted by @bekb65
Where is your favourite place and why is it?
I would have to say Benidorm. I know it's cheesy and not everyone's cup of tea, but I love it. What's not to love? There's sun, sea, beautiful beaches, shops, bars, and plenty of culture if you look away from the main tourist areas. I just feel so at home there, and it's one of the few places abroad that I feel 100% safe wandering around on my own if other people don't want to leave the pool side.

Q6 submitted by @moderatemum
What kind of writing do you want to do?
On my blog I like to explore all kinds of writing from fiction, to my opinion on various things and sometimes even something factual. With regards to books I am working on, they are all fiction at the moment, but you never know when that might change!

Anything Goes Linky Week 7

Anything Goes linky week 7

Welcome to the Anything Goes linky, week 7! This linky is for any type of posts on any subject. Literally Anything Goes! It will run from 12.05am Monday to 11.55pm the following Sunday, so there is plenty time to link up. And if you link up early, feel free to pop back and check out some of the later link ups - you never know when you will find your new favourite blog!

I will be adding pinnable images to my #AnythingGoes Pinterest board, check it out here www.pinterest.com/randommusings29

If you are new to linkys, Becky at Cuddle Fairy has written a fantastic guide on how to link your posts, which you can read here: http://www.cuddlefairy.com/the-linky-guide-1/

How it works

1. Link up to 3 posts, old or new, per week

2. Please add my badge to any linked up posts - copy and paste the code below into the HTML section of your post.

3 Please read and comment on at least 2 other posts, but feel free to do as many as you want to! The more you share the love, the more love you will get back!
4. To keep up to date with what's happening when, feel free to follow me on Twitter @randommusings29
5. Share your post's URL on Twitter using #AnythingGoes and tag me @randommusings29 and I will retweet (as many times as you want to!).

I look forward to reading all your posts! Everyone welcome :)
