Frenemies: Not Always A Bad Things 3rd April 2015

I kind of miss having a frenemy. I don't necessarily think its a bad thing. They sure keep you on your toes. In my experience, its a strange relationship, but its sort of fun in a weird way.
Mine was my friend's ex girlfriend. She got it into her head pretty early on that there was something between him and me. I don't know if she thought we were actually sleeping together, or if she thought we just wanted to, its not something that really comes up in polite conversation.
She was insecure to say the least. If I, or anyone else, tagged my location in a Facebook status for example, she would randomly turn up there. I think she hoped to catch us doing something we shouldn't be (he didn't have to be tagged, just me). He caught her going through his phone, that kind of thing.
It was pretty funny, I think she thought she was being fairly subtle, but everyone was talking about it. It was all very sweetie, darling and air kisses, then when his back was turned it was all evil looks and bitchy comments.
The strange part is though, she was actually a nice enough girl. I think if we had met under other circumstances, or she had been a bit more secure in the relationship, we probably would have gotten along just fine.
I say we were frenemies rather than her just outright hating me because whenever they had problems, or she needed someone to talk to, she would come to me. We even went out for a drink a few times without him around and we got on pretty well, although I do think we were both pretty guarded. Also, once they split up, she kept in touch. At first I think this was mostly to keep tabs on him, but this was a couple of years ago and she still sometimes messages me.
I probably didn't help matters. At first, I made an effort to be nice to her, but it got to the point were I got sick of looking like an idiot, being nice to someone who kept making little digs and so on, so I kind of played with her a bit. Ultimately though, I didn't want to come between them, so I stopped and just kind of avoided them until they broke up. It turned out that when I wasn't around, she fixated on another girl and did the same with her.
I think a frenemy balances out well with other friendships. Ask your best friend a question and she will try to put the best possible spin on her answer. Ask a frenemy, and she will go the exact opposite. Go in the middle and that's probably your answer.
Anyone else miss their frenemy?
