Often people ask why bloggers blog. Well why do we? I can't speak for everyone, but here are five of the reasons I blog:
1. Blogging is like free therapy - you can get anything and everything off your chest, you can write about something that has left you broken, sad and you might find the writing process helps some.
2. Blogging is a fantastic way to share your ideas and opinions with the world! - I love having this little space to talk about my thoughts and opinions on anything and everything, and to share the things that make me happy, the things that make angry and the things I love!
3. I just love it - I originally started my blog to help me find my voice as a writer. Perhaps this is the wrong reason for starting a blog (are there any wrong reasons?), but I fell in love with blogging and I now see it as so much more than a stepping stone. Blogging itself has become the end goal. I still very much want to write a novel, but I still want to blog too. I also learned the two are very different in terms of voice. On here, what you see is what you get - I write in my own voice and I stay honest and true to myself. When writing fiction, I write in a character's voice, and that character may well have very different thoughts than I would have!
4. I love hitting milestones and goals - I guess you could say I'm a little competitive that way. I don't try to compete with other bloggers, not only is that pointless, but I believe as bloggers, we should be helping each other, not trying to outdo each other.
I love the element of competing with myself for want of a better term. I like setting goals for myself and achieving them, and my blog allows me to do that. I'm also a bit of a stats geek (I didn't know that about myself until I started blogging), and although I don't let myself get too hung up on stats, I still enjoy looking at them and comparing them month on month.
5. I love the community feel - Prior to starting my blog, I imagined bloggers to be very competitive with one another, and I thought there would be a lot of back stabbing. I couldn't have been more wrong! The blogging community is amazing - everyone is so friendly and welcomes new comers with open arms, often giving help and advice where needed. I have made a lot of new friends through blogging, and stupid as it sounds, I feel like they get me on levels my IRL friends don't.
Are you a blogger? What do you love about it? Let me know inn the comments :)
Honestly she I started I did to make money and it initiay grew on me now I enjoy blogging and I also love seeing that people are visiting my blog and leaving comments its fulfilling now
ReplyDeleteIt's a lovely feeling seeing that people are reading your words and commenting on them isn't it. I couldn't imagine not blogging now :)
DeleteThere's a certain satisfaction in knowing that people are going out of their way to read my thoughts and opinions. Ego trip? I guess, maybe
ReplyDeleteYou raise a good point there - it probably is a bit of an ego thing. It still surprises me on a daily basis that people want to read my posts!
DeleteI started because I wanted to get experience writing too (initially wrote writing wrong there - you'll never make it as a writer if you can't spell writing!)
ReplyDeleteThe community is great - I had no idea! #happyquacks
Lol could be a bit embarrassing if you can't spell your job title :) I love the blogging community!
DeleteWhat a fab inspirational post! I need to set some personal short term goals. This is something I've not done in a while. Blogging in really hard work. I enjoy writing in my own voice too and have learnt as you it is much better to work together and support one another.

Thank you :) I find having goals gives me something to aim for and it pushes me to keep to schedule. Looking back now, I couldn't imagine blogging without feeling part of a community - its good to have a support network for if things go wrong, and to celebrate each other's successes :)
DeleteI really agree with 4 and 5. The camaraderie of (most) bloggers is just amazing. I have made genuine friendships too through blogging which sounds a bit weird. #happyquacks
ReplyDeleteIt must sound very weird to a non-blogger. Before I started, I would have been very sceptical that it wasn't all fake. I think you have to be in it to get it :)
DeleteOh my gosh, I agree with all five points & feel exactly the same way! The sense of community is something I had never imagined! Writing is cathartic & having feedback is amazing! #happyquacks
ReplyDeleteIt's a great feeling to write something, especially if it's personal and find that other people feel the same way about it :)
DeleteNumber 1 especially!! ππ»ππ»ππ» xxx #happyquacks
ReplyDeleteIt's a great way to get things off your chest!
DeleteI started blogging because I was, and still am, at a career crossroads (I'm planning on writing a post about it) and since I love writing and I'm told I'm a good writer, I wanted to get a feel for the blogging world and see where it takes me. I also wanted to start somewhere small before I try to publish any of my fiction stories and thought that blogging would be an excellent way to get more writing experience and find out if this writing thing is really for me. What I didn't expect, like you, is how supportive everyone has been. I've only been blogging for three weeks now and I've got more support from total strangers than I've gotten from my own family(my ex and a couple of personal friends are the ONLY ones who have actually read my blog). It really is amazing and I love it. I am starting to feel like I'm a part of a really great community, something I never thought I'd ever feel. So thank you to all of you for being so awesome! Thanks for sharing this! Great post!!
ReplyDeleteBlogging is a great way to ease into the world of writing, I just didn't expect to love it so much, and I do believe a lot of that feeling comes from the community. It is amazing that people who are like blogging celebrities take time out to help out us newbies, in what other industry would you find that? Thank you so much :)
DeleteYep, yep, yep, agree with all of these. I've only recently started blogging and I'm so glad that I did. Wish I'd started sooner, to be honest, but never mind #happyquacks
ReplyDeleteMe too, I really love it. I wish I had started sooner too :)
DeleteI really couldn't have written this post better myself. Your oppinions and thoughts really echo my own, I went in to blogging because I love cooking and have a disability... hence the combination of them both. I am a stats geek and try to set myself goals too, although largely miss them, it's fun trying and the community feel is great. I've met a blogging friend from Scotland and we've become very good friends... simply through the food blogging community. I've shared with my friends on facebook in our small blogging community, thanks for posting! #BrilliantBlogPosts
ReplyDeleteThanks for the lovely comment :) After reading what your blog is about I think your name is perfect, love it! The community is amazing isn't it :)
DeleteBlogging has really helped me find my inner voice and that's what I love about it :) Thanks for linking up to #happyquacks xx
ReplyDeleteThat's great, it a fab way of finding your voice :) Thanks for hosting
DeleteAll great reasons Deb! Blogging seriously saved my sanity and made me a happier person. #AnythingGoes
