Avon Haul 4

The name might be slightly misleading on this one, I think it's more of a little top up than a haul! I must confess I got slightly more than is shown here, but the rest is Christmas decorations and I think it's a little early to start posting those!

Avon Haul 4

1. Liquid Sequin Nail Wear in Dazzle
2. 2 x Beautiful Hands gifts sets - these contain 3 different mini hand creams. These are going to be little stocking fillers, hence the reason they are still boxed in the pictures!

Total spend: £11.00

Super Easy To Make Halloween Ghosts

Super Easy To Make Halloween GhostsDecorations are a major part of any Halloween party.

You can pick up lots of bargains at local pound shops, Home Bargains, BM, Asda and Wilkinsons, especially if you buy them after Halloween for next year.

But nothing quite beats the home made ones - they are unique and often a fun way of getting children involved with the decorating process.

These little ghosts are so super easy to make and cheap to make too!

If you aren't having a party, why not use these to decorate your porch, and when you get trick or treaters, hand them out!

Super Easy To Make Halloween Ghosts
This is what you will need

All you need is:

* One wrapped, spherical lollipop per ghost
* One paper tissue per ghost
* Sticky tape (optional)
* A spool of white cotton
* Felt tipped pens in whichever colour(s) you choose

1. Decide how low you want them to hang and measure out the cotton to that length. I like to do all different lengths so it doesn't look too symmetrical.

Finished result!
2. Once you have your desired length measured out, double it up and add two inches.

3. Put the ends of the cotton together and lay flat so you have a doubled up length of cotton with a loop at one end.

4. Holding the lollipop upright, place the centre of the tissue on the top of it, and gather it in tight underneath the sweet part.

5. Put the loop end of the cotton against where you have pulled the tissue in and thread the length through the loop.

6. Pull tight, and wrap it around 4 times, pulling the length through the last wrap and pulling tight.

7. Draw a face on the head using felt tip pen - Experiment with colours and expressions! I have gone for a voodoo doll type on this one, but you can really go nuts here!

8. If you want the ghosts to hang vertically (like in the photo), attach the cotton to the back of the head with a tiny piece of sticky tape. You can skip this step if you want them to look lie they are flying!

9. All done! Simply hang them in place with the length of cotton!

Hanging up!

Cute, right?

Book Review: People Who Eat Darkness By Richard Lloyd Parry

Time for the review of the first of October's reading list (have a look here if you missed it!).

My review of People Who Eat Darkness by Richard Lloyd Parry

Book Review: People Who Eat Darkness By Richard Lloyd Parry

Blurb from the back cover

In the summer of 2000, Jane Steare received the phone call every mother dreads. Her daughter Lucie Blackman - tall, blonde and twenty-one years old - had stepped into the vastness of a Tokyo summer and disappeared forever. That winter, her dismembered remains were found buried in a desolate seaside cave.
Her disappearance was mystifying. Had Lucie been abducted by a religious cult? Who was the mysterious man she had gone to meet? What did her work as a "hostess" in the notorious Roppongi district of Tokyo really involve? And could Lucie's fate be linked to the disappearance of another girl some ten years earlier?
Over the course of a decade, Richard Lloyd Parry has travelled to four continents to interview those caught up in the story and been given unprecedented access to Lucie's bitterly divided family to reveal the astonishing truth about Lucie and her fate.

My thoughts on the book

This book gives a fantastic insight to the life of a foreigner in Tokyo. The lifestyle, the work etc all form an integral part of Lucie's story and I think the author documents the lifestyle very well.
From the point of Lucie's disappearance to the point of the trial (and a little beyond) the information is well presented, clear and easy to follow. The author has obviously done a lot of research and it shows. He comes across as someone who knows what they are talking about, and makes a clear distinction between fact and opinion.

Conclusion and rating

Very well written and researched, this is an informative, but interesting read. It is a little frustrating that some questions remain unanswered, but that isn't the author's fault, the questions remained unanswered by the police or any other authority. 4/5

3 Halloween Make Up Ideas

For all dressing up for Halloween is one of the main things I enjoy about it, I usually end up doing the same costume every year. It's simple and easy and virtually free!

3 Halloween Make Up IdeasI go goth - back dress, black tights, dog collar for my neck (an actual collar for dogs, not a vicar collar!), cat collar for my wrists, pale face with lots of black eyeliner, black lipstick (which is actually liquid eyeliner set with a bit of black shadow, it lasts all night with no need for touch ups even when drinking) and black nail varnish. I even dye my hair black for the night! The only cost was the first time I did it, I had to buy a dog and cat collar.
You could also add a witches hat or vampire teeth!

This year, I have been watching a lot of YouTube Halloween make up tutorials for something a bit different. As it turns out, I won't be dressing up this year because where I work aren't doing a party this year - a pub not doing a Halloween party! Don't even get me started on that one!

However, I thought I would still share my three favourite - they are a lot easier than you would imagine when you watch the tutorials! Enjoy :)

1. Ripped up face!

2. Two face!

3. Exploded face!

Have you tried any of these? What is your tried and tested Halloween costume? Let me know in the comments :)

5 Steps To Throwing The Perfect Halloween Party!

5 Steps To Throwing The Perfect Halloween Party!Throwing a Halloween party can seem a little daunting the first time, there's a lot to think about. It can be really fun though if you just relax and enjoy it!

Make a list of everything you need to buy and another of everything you need to do.

You can now stop trying to think of everything, and hopefully this should leave you pretty calm.

The main elements to consider are:

1. Your costume!
Choose what you want to come as, and make sure you have all the bits and bobs you will need. If it involves particularly tricky make-up, have a practice run before the day.

2. Food and drinks
Decide on which food you would like to serve. A finger buffet is by far the easiest to do and you can have it all prepared before the party so you don't spend half the night cooking! Once you know how many are people are coming, you can work out quantities.

3. Decorations
This is such a fun one. Go as mad as your budget allows! If you don't have a huge budget, improvise and make some things yourself. I have a post coming up Thursday on some fab little home made ghosts that are really cheap and easy to make!

4. Games/entertainment
Decide what sort of party games you want to play. I will be sharing some inspiration Thursday through Saturday!

5. Playlist
It's not a Halloween party without a spooktacular (sorry, couldn't resist!) playlist!

If you get these right, your party will be a huge success!

When broken down, all the elements are pretty simple to do so take them one at a time. Stay tuned over the next few days as each day I will be adding some top tips for each category.

One other thing to take into account is your guest list. This one is pretty simple - invite the people you like!
