Feeling uninspired? Read on for my top three tips for beating blogger's block.
At some point when you are feeling motivated, work out roughly which content you want to post when - you can always tweak it later to allow for anything topical that comes up.
Make a list of topics you want to write about at some point to refer to when you are feeling uninspired.
Write down some potential headings, or even a couple of short posts to hold in reserve for a bad day, so you still have content going out.
2. Walk away
Not forever, obviously. Take five minutes - make a coffee, go for a walk, read a chapter of a book, do some laundry - anything that isn't blog related. Concentrate on the task at hand and don't think about the post, it's amazing how many times you will come back and know exactly what you wanted to say all along.
3. Just write
Start writing, even if it's utter rubbish (you can always delete it). Usually starting writing is enough to get your creative side going. If you really can't think of what to say, type exactly what is in your head. I once started a post with a line somewhere in the region of "Why am I sat looking at my screen at 1am with no post written". It went from there and was soon written!
Do you have any tips to add on how you beat blogger's block? Let me know in the comments!
Sensible tips. #anything goes (I'd already commented on your excellent Host post!) Have a lovely week
ReplyDeleteThank you, and thanks for always making the effort to comment :) You too x
DeleteGreat Tips as always and thanks for linking up with #ShowcaseTuesday
ReplyDeleteI jot down notes constantly. I can't tell you how many brilliant ideas I've had, only to have completely forgotten them later that day when I sit down to write. I've also looked at notes later and wondered how I ever thought that was a good idea, but at least the thought isn't lost...
ReplyDeleteGood suggestion, it's so frustrating when an idea flits back out of your head before you have chance to use it!
DeleteGreat tips as always Debbie. I have a notebook with ideas & to do lists. It's gotten totally out of control though - I need to reorganize myself. When the kids go back to school I need to re-structure my blogging schedule - and follow ur tips! #alittlebitofeverything x
ReplyDeleteThank you :) Sometimes I look back at my lists and I'm like What? so I know what you mean! x
Deletelol yes, sometimes I seem to talk in code that I only understand the day I wrote it. Back with #PositivelyPosted x
DeleteIt's good to know that happens to other people too :) x
DeleteAbsolutely hun! #AnythingGoes x

Thanks Caro, I hope it helps them :)
DeleteGreat tips! Especially number 1. I find I have days where I am feeling really inspired and motivated so I write down loads of ideas then and when I am feeling a bit stuck I have a big list ideas waiting for me. Fab post xx ~Alittlebitofeverything
ReplyDeleteThanks Wendy - that's what I try to do too. If I don't write them down, I tend to forget them :)
DeleteI often suck at the walk away - I will find myself sitting there dogged in my approach. Thanks for reminding me that 5 or 10 mins away can get the creative energy flowing again! Mel xx #showcasetuesday
ReplyDeleteTry it Mel, it really does work. I usually go make a coffee and come back totally motivated :)
DeleteGreat post! Thanks for the tips! The walk away part works good for me ;) #alittlebitofeverything
ReplyDeleteThank you, it always works for me too :)
DeleteGreat advice, so far I've been ok but will bear this in mind for the future.. Thanks for sharing! :) #brilliantblogposts

DeleteAt some point we all get bloggers block and it can feel so daunting and horrid. Great tips to over come it, just writing whatever is in your head usually works a treat! Ray xx #mmwbh
ReplyDeleteIt's the worst feeling in the world, when you have a post due to go out and feel you have nothing at all to say. Thank you :)
DeleteI've realised a note book is my best friends - I get ideas at the most random moments. It's good to get them captured for those writers block moments. #PositivelyPosted
ReplyDeleteDefinitely, I find ideas pop up at weird times too! I usually make a note of them on my phone :)
DeleteGreat tips. I like to be quite organised to always have a few weeks worth of posts scheduled and I try to keep ideas written down so I don't forget! Thanks for linking up to the #BinkyLinky
ReplyDeleteThank you :) I don't always have the posts written in advance, but I like to know what I will be posting in advance, then it's just a matter of actually writing it. Thanks for hosting :)
DeleteGreat tips and a very useful post thanks for linking to the binkylinky
ReplyDeleteThank you, glad you liked it! Thanks for hosting :)
DeleteI think the just start writing advice is always good. I tend to do that. My current problem is that I have lots of ideas but no time! #anythinggoes
ReplyDeleteIf you find the solution to the time thing let me know lol :)
Deletesome of my best posts have started as total garbage Never throw an idea away. Inspiration my hit at a later date
ReplyDeleteTotally agree!
DeleteThose are brilliant! Thanks for sharing! Visiting from #anythinggoes
ReplyDeleteThank you :)
DeleteGreat tips girl!!! I have a notebook that I carry everywhere in my bag that I write in when every an idea comes to me. Then when I am able I start a draft with the idea and go from there. #anythinggoes
ReplyDeleteKristen
Thank you :) I use a note pad app on my phone!
DeleteGreat tips. When I can, I try and write down ideas for a blog post and then come back later. To be honest though, I probably have 30 drafts that I've started and walked away from. I think I've gone back to perhaps one or two but most sit in draft still. #AnythingGoes
ReplyDeleteThank you :) Good to know they are in reserve if you ever need them though!
DeleteBack again from #anythinggoes I'm yet to experience writers block and fingers crossed I don't, but if I do I know where to come for advice x
ReplyDeleteThank you. I hope you never need them! x
DeleteFab tips. I know if I have writers block I need to spend some more time with my muse- the baby :-)
ReplyDelete#anythinggoes
Thank you :) Lol yeah, he's sure to do something entertaining!
DeleteGreat tips thanks for hosting
ReplyDeleteThank you, and thanks for linking up :)
DeleteGreat tips-I have started jotting down ideas for posts now, whereas before I was just waiting for inspiration to strike. Always good to have a few ideas you can refer to when stuck.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely! I have a list of what I think of as back up posts for if I'm ever stuck!
DeleteGreat tips! especially now that I'm less motivated, lol. Just feeling lazy, it's nice to know that others feel the same way too and not just me. #AnythingGoes
ReplyDeleteThank you :) I think we all hit that stage at some point and I agree - it's good to know we're not alone.
DeleteYes, yes, and yes! Lately, I've been having writer's block, and I find that walking away for more than five minutes helps me to get my thoughts in order. (More like 24 hours for a fresh perspective.) I write all my thoughts down randomly and then come back to organize them later. Seems to do the trick! Thanks for hosting #AnythingGoes :)
ReplyDeleteIt's always good to get a fresh perspective. I like having a few posts written and ready so if I do feel I need longer than five minutes to refresh, I've still got something to post. Thanks for linking up :)
DeleteGood tips! I find that just starting to write is often the winner, once I have a sentence, the rest tends to flow. If it's not, I do something else for awhile :)
ReplyDeleteThank you :) The first sentence is always the hardest. I often come back and change it, but just writing anything as a sentence tends to get me started too :)
DeleteOh blogger's block sometimes gets the best of all of us! Or in my case, no time! Thanks for linking up with #Alittlebitofeverything! Have a great night!
ReplyDeleteThat's the worst isn't it - when you have ideas but no time to write about them! Thanks for hosting :) You too!
DeleteSome good tips! I should really make a list of potential posts when I get the chance because I often find I get blogger's block! And, as always, thanks for hosting #AnythingGoes (even if I'm late linking up this week).
ReplyDeleteThank you :) It's always good to have a list of back up posts just in case! Thanks for linking up :)
DeleteGreat tips and ones that I do quite often. You couldn't imagine all the rubbish drafts I have going on in my wordpress draft folder. Thanks for hostessing the wonderful #AnythigGoes!
ReplyDeleteThank you :) I have a folder on my desk top for them and some of the stuff just makes no sense at all now! You're welcome, thanks for linking up :)
DeleteFab post and one that I am having to keep reminding myself of at the moment! Thanks for linking up with us on the #bigfatlinky hope to see you there this week.
